Research projects:

Non-linear identification methods (Matti Tarvainen)
Identification methods based on self-organizing maps (SOM) were developed to separate
explosions from natural earthquakes. Recordings from well known, frequently shooting
mines and quarries in Fennoscandia were used as test material and ground truth data base.

Noise studies in Kilpisjärvi and Laitila (Matti Tarvainen & Pasi Lindblom)
Field studies at two new station sites at Kilpisjärvi in western Finnish Lapland and at Laitila
in southwestern Finland were conducted to determine the level and type of the background
noise.

Nuclear test ban verification (Pekka Heikkinen)

Recognizing the earthquakes from the chemical explosions (Timo Tiira & Marja Uski)
