Welcome to the Institute of Seismology!

Institute of Seismology is a division of the Department of Geosciences and Geography under the Faculty of Science since 1.1.2010. It was previously an independent institute under the Senate of the University of Helsinki. It was founded in 1961. The main activities of the Institute are to perform seismological research, and do seismic observations and maintain the Finnish national seismic network (HE).
In addition it participates in international cooperation in seismology, and carries out various tasks in detection seismology by order of the Authorities.
The Institute also creates the opportunity for teaching seismology at the University of Helsinki.
